Part 1 of Urine the Know builds the foundations every good urinalysis depends on, so the results you report can be trusted.
You’ll start with a short history of urine testing, from early uroscopy to the ‘piss prophets’ whose exposure helped lead to the first medical licensing laws in England. You’ll then learn the three parts of a complete urinalysis (physical, chemical and microscopic) and the collection methods of free catch, bladder expression, catheterisation and cystocentesis, with the risks of each and which method suits urine culture.
The webinar then covers labelling and storage, including testing within 2 hours or refrigerating the sample. You’ll finish with the physical exam of urine: volume and the terms pollakiuria, polyuria, oliguria and anuria, colour and what changes can mean, clarity, specific gravity measured with a refractometer (including how to calibrate it), and odour.
