This webinar starts with a short history of suture manufacturing, then looks at the types of wound closure and the properties of an ideal suture. It explains USP and metric sizing, how to read suture packaging, and the difference between tensile strength and absorption time.
It compares natural and synthetic materials, monofilament and braided structures, tissue reactivity and how long different tissues need suture support. It finishes with needle ductility and curvature, cyanoacrylate tissue adhesives, and a practical demonstration of suturing and knotting.
Presented by Luis Beltran Fernandez at the 2025 ACVN Nurse Conference (Surgical stream).
Includes the full recording (1 hour 3 minutes), the presentation slides as a PDF, and a quiz. Pass the quiz to receive a certificate worth 1 AVNAT point.
