This webinar looks at what desexing involves, from ovariohysterectomy, ovariectomy and ovary sparing spay to castration and cryptorchid surgery. It then works through the research on the benefits of desexing female and male dogs and cats, including reproductive tract disease, mammary and testicular tumours, prostate disease and behaviour.
It also covers the health risks linked to desexing, such as some cancers, cranial cruciate ligament rupture and other orthopaedic problems, obesity and lower urinary tract disease in cats, and what a 35-breed study found about age at desexing. It finishes with the ethics of desexing and a discussion on when is the right time to desex.
